2021 NANKA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE. IT WAS NKPOR BRANCH’S YEAR

Nine teams were up for the coveted diadem. 8 teams were to qualify for the quarter final. At the end of it all, Onitsha was unlucky to be the only team not to make it to the round of 8. Kano branch almost caused a big scare, after losing 0-2 to Nkpor and Umuahia respectively; they held Lagos to a barren draw in the quarter final before penalty shout out became their greatest undoing. Lagos branch had scored seven goals in two matches during the group stage but failed to register a goal during their match with Kano branch. The bookmakers had already given it to Lagos branch but the lottery of penalties saved them. Umuahia branch also recorded some rare results, playing 2-2 draws in the semi final and the third place, but lost on both occasions via penalty shootout. Nkpor branch made a back to back win, retaining the trophy after edging Ota branch 1-0. Ifenna Okoye scored the only goal of the day and was as well voted the best player of the 2021 NCL..
